I need it to be absolutely quiet when I write. I didn't grow up with a TV and my house was always silent, so I don't do well with distractions. I can't write with a regular pen, I have to use a good liquid ink pen or I just don't feel like writing. I usually type though. I like to work at my desk on my computer. It takes me forever to start writing, first I distract myself doing everything else I could possibly do, write emails, check my bank account online, stuff like that, to put off actually writing. Finally when I absolutely have to start I will and then I get done quickly. To help me write I will flip through the dictionary and thesaurus to brainstorm for ideas. I'll go off on several tangents and usually end up on Wikipedia but in the end I do finish the assignment. If I'm writing a research paper I spend so much time researching I never have any time to write the paper though I end up knowing a lot about the subject. Narrative and creative writing is the hardest for me, I hate not being given a topic because I don't enjoy writing.
